What Does "Pre-Hung Door" Mean?
A pre-hung door is the complete door package, consisting of a slab door, door frame, and hinges. For people who are new to door installation, purchasing a pre-hung door is ideal. All you need to do is select the correct size door and frame for your opening, buy a pre-hung door package, and install the entire unit. Similarly, if you’re having a complete home renovation, a pre-hung door will save you a lot of time if you’re replacing all the internal doors within the home.
What’s the difference between a pre-hung door and a slab door?
A pre-hung door is a door set consisting of everything that you need to install it into your opening. A slab door is simply just the door.
A slab door is included in pre-hung doors. The difference being that the slab door in a pre-hung set will come with the frame and hinges already attached. Slab doors are ideal if you’re replacing your internal doors with a newer version of the same door and the same size. If you’re replacing a door of a different type, pre-hung is best as your old frame is likely to have different screw locations. This can make it extremely tricky to install without causing any damage to the frame.
Although a slab door is cheaper, for quick and easy installation pre-hung doors are the better option.
