Black Fire Doors at Vibrant Doors

Our Black Fire Doors Range

Black fire doors can be a bold stylistic choice for your home as well as providing outstanding protection from smoke and flames. At Vibrant Doors, we stock an eclectic range of FD30 fire-rated doors so that our customers can get the fire safety they need without compromising on style. Whether your interior aesthetic favours contemporary minimalism or time-honoured classic designs, we have the black internal doors for you.

Our black panel fire doors are available in several styles, encompassing a range of sizes to suit frames from 1981 x 686 x 44mm to 2040 x 826 x 44mm. You may notice that at 44mm, black internal fire doors are thicker than the average internal door. This is to enhance the door’s fire safety.

Within our range, you’ll find internal black doors to suit all tastes. Looking for a black panel fire door with clean contemporary lines? You may want to take a look at the stunning Montreal Dark Grey Ash door from Deanta Doors, or the Tigris Cinza fire door from JB Kind. If you’re looking for a door that’s elegant in its simplicity, check out the Montreal black laminate fire door from LPD Doors, or the classic panelling of the Knightsbridge black door, also from LPD.

What Is a Fire Door?

A fire door is designed to prevent smoke and flames from affecting living spaces in the event of a fire. They help to facilitate a safe exit from the property if a fire should break out, which is why their positioning within homes and commercial buildings is so important.

Fire doors are thicker than conventional internal doors due to their more robust core. They also feature an intumescent strip that runs across the base or around the sides of the door. This expands as it gets hotter, creating a seal that prevents smoke from seeping through tiny gaps between the door and the frame.

Fire doors are rigorously tested by the UKAS Accredited Test Houses and rated by how long they are guaranteed to keep smoke and flames at bay. For instance, FD30 rated doors ensure 30 minutes of fire safety, but there there are also FD60, FD90 and FD120 fire doors that can repel smoke and fire for an hour, hour and a half or two hours respectively. However, FD30 doors are most commonly used in private residences, while FD60 and above are more commonly used in commercial and industrial properties.

Glazed fire doors  use borosilicate or ceramic glass to ensure a great look that bathes the living space in natural light without compromising fire safety.

Do All Internal Doors Need to Be Fire Doors?

Not necessarily. Fire doors are only legally required for doors leading from habitable rooms into  communal corridors or stairwells. If you live in a flat or building of more than 2 storeys, of multiple occupancy (like a student house), the door connecting your living space to communal areas should be fire-rated.

However, there is no legislation saying fire doors cannot be used elsewhere in the home. They can provide additional noise reduction, and extra safety and reassurance when, for instance, used between kitchens and garages that connect directly to living spaces.
